Remnants of lime paint between these plaster layers signalled that the different layers were applied at different times. We also encountered such additions on the flat sections (fig. 9). 48Stainless-steel screws with perforated washers were used to fasten the ceiling. The existing zinc plates and screws were stripped of rust and then coated with a solution of water with plexol and sand, thus insulating them. The resulting rough surface allowed the lime mortar to adhere better.
After applying a stucco net, a good contemporary substitute for thatch as a backing, new layers of stucco and plaster were applied (fig. 10). 30A review of the stucco ceiling revealed the following defects. The paintwork was coming loose from the stucco ceiling in a number of places.
